After a break, it's back to Mr. and Mrs. Jones, my Scooby-Doo fancomic set in the world of Indiana Jones, or (more specifically) 1944 in Russia. As a brief reminder, Fred and Daphne are married, but secretly working against each other. Fred, Velma and Shaggy (and Daphne) are supposed to be protecting Josef Stalin, but The Shadow (of radio hero fame) has recruited Daphne to kill Stalin, and Fred doesn't know it!
There are about ten suspects. Each splits up to tail 3-4 each. Daphne's watching Beria, but while shadowing him, he sneaks up on her. Bound and gagged, she's at his mercy, until Dr. Ivan Nyet comes to her rescue from bondage, and chases off Beria, but not before he threatens both. We learn that Dr. Nyet is also working The Shadow, so he's Daphne's ally.
Jaguaro
PS1: Dr. Nyet is drawn based upon a character from the Anastasia movie (a favorite animated non-Disney movie). He's sort of a scientist/politician (science officer?) PS2: Daphne is drawn in a black dress based upon hers from a New Scooby Movies episode (Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hydes). Scenes from here are based upon those from the film. PS3: Beria was the head of the NKVD, a sort of KGB of the day, though I think they are now known as the FSB. But folks in Russia today are still scared of them!
No doubt, I hit every cliche and stereotype in the book. But that's the fun of it. In fact, I was reading Will Eisner's Storytelling book. Such material allows people to make simplified connections to otherwise complex stories (like some of my plots).
His book uses cavemen and cave paintings for the early illustrations for storytelling. It's worth a purchase, esepcially if you like The Spirit comics, not that movie thing that folks warn me I'll hate.
